The Lord spoke to
the people of Israel
through His servant Moses, saying: “For the Lord your God has blessed you in
all that you have done; He has known your wanderings through this great
wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you; you have not
lacked a thing” (Deuteronomy 2:7, NASB).
If you can read this Bible study, guess what? You’re
“blessed.” It means you’re alive. It means you can see. It means you’ve been
privileged with an education that enabled you to read. It means you have access
to a computer. It means you are in a place that allows religious freedom.
When we look over our lives, what have we really done
without? What have we really missed out on? Compared to the majority of the
world, we have been overwhelmingly “blessed.”
And, like the Israelites, child of God, your Heavenly Father
“has known” and been with you in everything you’ve gone through – the good, the
bad and the ugly. He’s waded into the muck with you and been your “refuge and
strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Proverbs 46:1, NIV). He’s never
left you (see Hebrews 13:5); He “has been with you” even when you’ve run from
Him.
He’s a Good God and, because He is, “you have not lacked a
thing.” No, you likely don’t live in the biggest house or drive the finest or newest
car; but you’re provided for. And He loves “you with an everlasting love”
(Jeremiah 31:3, NIV).
“There is always the danger that we may just do the work for
the sake of the work. This is where the respect and the love and the devotion come in – that
we do it to God, to Christ, and that’s why we try to do it as beautifully as
possible.” (Mother Teresa)
